Crop Hunger Walk and Run

Just a quick pop in to say a little bit about this great event that I was lucky enough to design this year's shirt and artwork for! Taking place on October 20th, the Greater Greensboro Crop Hunger Walk and Run is a 5k event that is so impressive because it has an impact here locally in our little part of North Carolina but also globally. This year's theme is One World, One Community, One Step. Here are some details straight from the Greensboro Urban Ministry site:

The Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk and Run is a 5k (3.1 miles) community event that raises funds to fight hunger. 25% of the funds raised go to Potter’s House Community Kitchen at Greensboro Urban Ministry. With the 75% going to Church World Service to meet human needs and foster self-reliance in over 80 countries.

Pretty neat, huh? Also, here is a nice article that I was interviewed for to promote the event and share the story about the inspiration behind my shirt design. Find out more about the event or sign up to participate, donate, or volunteer here.

weekend recall part one

As I shared last week, we had a pretty action packed weekend. One of the highlights of it was that on Sunday afternoon we drove up towards the NC mountains to watch the mass ascension of hot air balloons at the Carolina BalloonFest. I have had a long running obsession with hot air balloons so this was pretty magical to me.
The weather was perfect and we ate a greasy bloomin' onion as we watched about thirty hot air balloons inflate and take flight all around us. I was amazed at how close the spectators were allowed to be to the balloons and was mesmerized by some of the really beautiful designs. (This is not including the huge advertisements or 200-foot tall US Constitution). We took what seemed like a million photos but here are some of my favorite shots on my phone. Gotta love those apps.

asheville pines

So our trip was pretty amazing. The boy is convinced that we are moving to Asheville- which wold be fine with me as it is beautiful and art-minded and only a couple of hours from our families here. The food and beer was awesome, the people were soooo nice, the shopping was great and we decided that overall it is just a nice, laid back, unpretentious little town. Some visual highlights from the visit:
Our adorable cabin.
Colorful walls of beads.
A secret garden found behind a florist shop.
Delicious lunches (sushi and miso soup).

Stumbling upon an amazing live painting and music performance.
And lots and lots of coffee (and big ass monster brownies).Asheville- we'll be back!
