shop update, holiday coupon code, AND a giveaway!

Hello friends!  It's been another long break due to an overly packed schedule but I wanted to pop in today and share some new prints I have up in the shop.  The peach and mint floral pattern prints are 5x7 inches and are $10 and the woodland NC print is 8x10 and is $12.

Order now for your holiday gifts and like Heart & Craft on facebook for an exclusive coupon code!  I'm also offering (for a short time) custom state prints in the same style as my woodland NC for just $50.  Leave me a comment here or send my a message in my etsy shop to set up an order!

And the most exciting news of the day?  I am offering a giveaway of one FREE custom state print to a reader!  Like the shop on etsy and facebook, then leave me a comment here telling me what State you'd love to get for yourself or to give as a gift!  A winner will be announced next Friday, November 23rd.  Yay!

I'm back to my preferred palette of soft neutrals and pastels.  I would love to play hide and seek in this curtain of fabric scraps by Raw Color.

thiebaud: land and figure

So inspired by the color schemes in these Wayne Thiebaud paintings.  I love the way the figures almost completely match the landscapes even though they were painted decade apart.  And those girls just look so damn cool, don't they?

ode to helen

I was sad to hear of the passing of American painter Helen Frankenthaler last month so I wanted to do a wordless tribute to her and her beautiful work today.

art for arts sake

Lately I have been gifted and have ordered several lovely prints for our home. It feels nice to be on etsy and be able to support other artists. It also feels nice to add some lovely art to our home. Here is the latest addition, on the way to find its place on our walls.

we are so good together

I would love to have this hanging in our bedroom. I have loved it ever since I saw it in an article in Dwell about LA-based shop Reform School. Unfortunately it sold out...mmm....about two years ago. And is not being reprinted. What?? I need it! Maybe I will look on ebay.
In the meantime- I did find it being sold (only the largest version) on the great art site 20x200's site...but in pink. Could I hang a pink print in our room? Would he die? Would he love it as much as I do?? Help!

wednesday wish list

Besides all of the kitchen stuff I posted yesterday, I would also love to get some new art for in there after the remodel is done. I have some of my own work in there right now but I would like to invest in work from some other artists to brighten up the space. There is so much beautiful and inspiring work out there and it is hard for me to make a choice, especially when I want to constantly redecorate every space. Right now I am looking at these prints by Leah Duncan, I love the colors and patterns she uses.
darling I'm leaving
hills.

I even love them displayed on that twine with clothes pins, though I don't think that would be the best option for a kitchen...

lisa congdon

Stumbled upon the artwork of Lisa Congdon recently on etsy and I am especially smitten with her animal portraits. It is nothing new for me to share some bird artwork but I also really love the whale and some of her abstract work. I am so scared to use these highly saturated colors in my own work but I think she pulls it off beautifully.

lovely ladies

Just wrapped up a great art show for my 2D design class and our IB art class last night and I am really proud of how far they have come this year. I have pushed them, yelled at them, aggravated them and simply not put up with any excuses from them this year and I am happy to say I think it has paid off. They had some really good work and they acted wonderfully (for teenagers) at their formal reception. Since I don't have those pictures edited yet, I thought I would post some other artwork that has been inspiring me lately.

project

So here is a preview of the project I spoke of a couple days ago. I assigned my photo class a "photo a day" project to get them back into the habit of using the cameras and being creative on a daily basis. I decided to embark on the project myself and am taking three photos a day. On day 3 there is not much to report, though I can tell it will get harder as time goes on. I have only photographed objects around the house so far and here are a few of my favorites. unedited- don't judge.
