bloglove: unruly things

Currently drooling over the Unruly Things, blog of Alyson Graves Brown, a graphic designer and letterpress printer from Portland. She shares a beautifully chosen collection of apparel, home, and paper goods that lately have been making me crave a cozy Portland weekend in floral tights, military jackets, and ankle boots.

blog love and weekend

I wish I had taken more photos from this weekend. It included lovely moments like wedding dress shopping (ok, this was more terrifying), craft and music festivals, dinner with ladies, and brunch with friends. And on Sunday it rained and fall arrived. The temperature dropped and I got to open windows and lay in bed with my computer and a cup of coffee. In that time I also stumbled upon a blog of a very talented lady that I had forgotten all about. For me, for you features crafts, food, weekend bits and lovely 35mm photographs. Add it to your reads if you have not already.

saint cupcake

Mrs. Bliss posted the most glorious photos she took of Saint Cupcake Deluxe... a delicious looking bakery and party supply shop in Portland. I seriously think I could live in this place. The colors, patterns, and modern decor are exactly where I want to hangout in the springtime.

And the best part? Mrs. Bliss is hosting a monthly Saint Cupcake giveaway where you can enter to have some of these beauties delivered right to your door. Makes me want to break out some muffin pans and sprinkles this weekend.

inspired.

It's finally here! It is my day to join so many other creative people in the blog.it.forward mashup. Thanks so much to Victoria for hosting this and to hashai for sending it my way from her post last Friday. Tomorrow's post will jump to Lehua of Heart on My Sleeve, whose blog I have enjoyed perusing lately, so be sure to check her post out. And now to it, what inspires me (in as small a space as I can fit it):
Midcentury Modern Design in all of it's streamlined glory,
especially when it can live in harmony with something rustic,

and understated Scandinavian design, especially when done in a white on white color scheme.

Oh, and beautiful lettering:

like these from designer Jessica Hische,

and even better when they are hand-drawn and accompanied by beautiful illustrations like these from Rifle Paper Co.

I am also inexplicably inspired by garlands and banners

it is amazing how much joy I can find in some scraps of paper or fabric.

Lastly, I am inspired to create and spend more time in the studio when I see beautiful hand-thrown ceramics like
those of eva zeisel
and edith heath.

There is so much more to be inspired by and I am happy to say it would take years to share all of it! That is really what this space is for me on a daily basis, so I hope you will stop back by.

Also, check out these other bloggers that are also posting their inspirations today as part of this mash-up:
alyson is neat, my little apartment, b's wig shoppe, pink o'clock, deldino, sherbet blossom, and teegan photography.

lucky!

I am so jealous of Victoria of sfgirlbybay right now! She is in sunny Palm Springs, CA for modernism week. Modernism Week! I didn't even know such a wonderful thing existed. Symposiums, lectures, and house tours all on one of my favorite things in the world. All while I am stuck in cold NC teaching teenagers... awesome. At least she has shared some great photos for all of us less fortunate to enjoy...

blog it forward mashup

I am really excited to say that I am officially taking part in this, the first ever Blog it Forward-The Blogger Mashup- created by the talented Victoria of sfgirlbybay.com

The banner was created by the equally talented Ez of Creature Comforts blog. The first round of this collaboration will focus on what different bloggers are inspired by- visually speaking. It will be a sort of chain letter where one blog will link to the next each day until everyone involved has posted. I am really excited to be a part of it and need to get started on my own post, I will let you know when it will be going up! The mashup starts on Feb 10th and it seems like it may run for quite a while with all of the bloggers that are signing up. I can't wait- need to go get inspired!!

Thanks to this post by Dallas, I was introduced to the adorableness that is at Cupcake Social's etsy shop. My birthday is this Saturday and I think these would be perfect for wrapping some delicious treats in.
