bundled up

It's kind of funny that my Friday post was talking about my desire to move with a quick pace and steady productivity as we enter 2014; because right now all I really want to do is cuddle up on the couch with a cup of tea and a good book. Maybe it's the 18 degree temperatures we've been experiencing, or the end of a long winter break, but I am in serious nesting mode. I've found myself wanting to be surrounded by warm woods and metals, rich textures, and neutral colors. Here are a few of the things I am craving for a cozy home and wardrobe. Stay warm friends!

bedrooms

We've finally gotten our bedroom cleaned up, simplified, organized and ready to be painted.  Yesterday we picked up a bunch of grey paint color chips to see what light hue might work in the space but now I am finding myself drawn to these all white rooms.  Would I get too bored or feel blah in an all white bedroom?  My studio is all white now and I love it- so is sans color the way to go?

I especially love the creative use of the garland in that top room.  You know I'm a sucker for a good garland.

saturday thoughts

Just a couple of things I have been thinking about rather than being productive today::

1. How I cannot wait to be at the beach. I don't know if I will even make it to the end of the month for our family trip, may have to escape to the shore for a day before that. photo by Margaret Durow.
2. Inspired by this girl, I want to do some tie dye. I am thinking of organizing a little tie dye party for me and my girlfriends but I don't want to end up with some hippie bright apparel, so I may need to do a little research first. I want some nice soft colors and swirlie texture, any tips?
3. I can't wait to see this movie.
That's all, happy holiday weekend!

gretel home

For you this Monday morning I have the most beautiful home and dishwares by Gretel Home. I dream of having a home draped in soft neutrals that all look like they came from natural linen fabrics. Soft grays, warm gray-browns, blush, cream, and slate. Somehow, though, I always end up throwing in cilantro greens and peacock teals and messing up that dreamy creamy scheme. Oh well, I have accepted that I must have color around me. BUT, if I was living in that neapolitan ice cream palette, I would want to use all of these wares from Gretel. Eat up these lovely creamy pieces.

what we've been up to

Snowed in since Friday night, here is what we have been doing, all while trying to stay sane::

Taking lots of flower pictures in front of the new teal wall.
Having adventures in the snow.
And eating a lot of junk food- including pancakes, grilled cheeses, and all sorts of delicious bad for you-but acceptable in this weather- types of food!

We finally got out of the house yesterday, I've made it to the gym twice now, and the mister went back to work today. I am going to have a million make-up days for work so I better enjoy this time now!

homeowner

My sister bought a house! Well, is in the process of buying her very first home. So, in honor of her new place, this post is solely devoted to all of the things I would buy for her and decorate her home with. Everything is from Terrain. A home and garden store owned by the same group as Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie, so you know I love it. So, Liz, here is what I would give to you if I could buy everything I wanted for you::
These lovely nesting bowls.
As well as these.
This sweet linen apron.
This garden tools towel set.
These foldable rubber boots.
And lastly, this heirloom seed collection.

Congratulations sister! I can't wait to help you move, garden, paint, decorate, and cook your first meal in your new home! I am sure there will be more of these posts to come.

And check out my other sister's awesome project here. Exciting!

teal

Loving this teal wall and these other teal accents. We are currently painting our hallway a grayish-teal and I can't wait to post some pictures to share! It is a dramatic color but I love the way the rich hue pops with our light golden-brown wooden floors.

I am not sure where these are from, they have set on my computer for months now.

***Update*** I wrote this post before we began painting, while teal paint was but a dream, but I am happy to say the hallway has been painted a beautiful rich teal and I will be able to share more images of it soon. It is really close to the color of the wall in the first image, but even closer to the ottomans in the second.

wednesday wish list

It's back! Yes, Wednesday wish list will continue even after the holiday season because, well, a girl can dream!

So lately I have been on the hunt for some stylish gray pillows for our bedroom and living room. I am kind of kicking myself for not picking up the simple ones I saw at Ikea yesterday for just a few bucks. Here is what I have come across on etsy recently::
gray cable knit by napoleonquilts.pleat pillow slip by yorktownroad.

Do you have any other sources or ideas for good pillows?

Merry Christmas! I hope it is the best day ever!

I will most likely be taking the next week off for visiting family in other parts of NC and in Georgia. See you next week, muah!

happy place

Can't get much better than some late morning sunlight and a warm bed. This may need to sit on my desktop at work for those long, trying days...
